This striking 30" x 20" framed intarsia artwork captures the quiet strength and enduring spirit of the American bison as it journeys across the open prairie beneath a dramatic sunset. Crafted from nearly 400 individually laser-cut and hand-shaped pieces of exotic hardwoods—including Purple Heart, Red Oak, White Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, Aspen, Poplar, Cherry, Canary, and Maple—each carefully selected wood contributes its own natural grain, texture, and color, eliminating the need for paints or stains.
The vibrant sky is a breathtaking highlight, created from rich Purple Heart and brilliant Canary woods that radiate the warmth of the setting sun. Soft, sculpted Maple clouds drift across the horizon, adding depth and contrast to the glowing landscape. Every strand of the bison's thick, wind-swept coat is meticulously layered and carved to create remarkable dimension, bringing the powerful animal to life with movement and realism.
A final, captivating detail is the bison's eye—a deep pool of glossy black acrylic that catches the light, creating an almost lifelike gaze that draws viewers into the scene. The combination of intricate craftsmanship, natural hardwood beauty, and dramatic composition celebrates both the majesty of North America's iconic wildlife and the timeless artistry of traditional intarsia woodworking.
